HOW TO DO A SUBSTRATE FOR 40MM BENCHTOP

DETAILED GUIDE ON SUBSTRATE FOR YOUR 40MM STONE BENCHTOPS

We strongly recommend putting in a substrate for 40mm benchtops. Substrates provide optimum support to your benchtops. Please see the below points when installing the substrate & getting your site ready for check measure.

  • Please ensure the cabinetry install has been completed, fixed down, level, square and the 18mm particle board substrate has been installed with the sink cut out / cooktop cut out completed.
  •  The Substrate Material Can be either 18mm Substrate or 19mm Yellow Tongue.
  • Wherever there will be a seen 40mm edge on your stone benchtop – the substrate is to be 25mm smaller than where you want the stone benchtop to finish. For example for 2000 mm x 900 mm freestanding island bench - the substrate needs to be 1950 X 850
  • When fixing down your substrate to the cabinetry, try to fix the substrate to your cabinets from underneath.  The reason being, if you need to remove your benchtop in the future for any reason, it’s a matter of unscrewing / disconnecting from underneath, and lifting off the stone with the substrate, otherwise the stone will need to be broken to remove to then access the screws for the substrate to remove
